Are you a whaler reader? The pros and cons of Kindle Unlimited

Full disclosure: I have a Kindle Unlimited subscription. I use it a lot. It adds joy to my life, and I get my money's worth. But it isn't right for everyone.

Further full disclosure: this post contains an affiliate link at the end. If you decide to get a trial subscription after reading this post, I'll get a little cut if/when you decide to switch to a paid plan.

So what kind of reader is Kindle Unlimited suitable for? Here are a few things to think about.

Are you a whale reader? Whale readers devour books like a whale ingests krill. Do you read several books a week? KU might be right for you.

Do you always finish every book you start? I don't. Which is one reason why I love my KU subscription. If I'm not getting into a book, I bail and go on to the next title on my list. I like not feeling obligated to finish something I'm not enjoying very much just because I already paid for it.

Does the genre you enjoy have lots of selection in KU? If you read mainly cozy mystery, suspense thrillers, romance, Sci Fi, and/or fantasy, you're going to be spoiled for choice. If you read mainly smaller genres or literary fiction, you might run out of things you want to read quickly. Before signing up for KU, take a look at the selection you have to choose from if your primary reading tastes fall outside mainstream genre fiction.

Do you really want to spend $9.99 every month on a subscription? And even if you do, is it realistic to think that you will cancel your auto-billing if you aren't getting your money's worth?
